practice #4

11/11/2017

This is the first practice after long time without practicing. I missed the practice, yet still its difficult to restart.

The practice

1) One deep breath, first just body and after with the Viola as well. Focus on ‘sending’ the air to different areas around the body; with the Viola - body and viola try to be in sync, to start and end each actions together. Maintaining focus on the breath and not on the sound.

Observations: exhale is broad and long, inhale is relatively quick.

2) Shape change
First practice of this subject.
Flow, Directional, Carving with: body, Viola and body-Viola.

Flow feels very intimate, self-centered, minimal, speaking to itself.
Directional notices the surroundings the floor, ceiling... movement becomes more expressive and expands to more area in the space.
Carving is like performing, it is calling someone (an audience, a partner) to join. More transparent, expressive, grand. The sound of the viola become larger and more resonate in every step.

My name is Maya Felixbrodt, I play Viola, compose and do other interdisciplinary things which you can explore on this website.

This blog documents my (almost) daily routine of research of MOVEMENT and MUSIC.

I write about the exercises I make - by myself or others, thoughts and ideas as well as self-observed reflections.
I also try to add visuals in order to make things more clear.

You can try the exercises yourself and comment if you'd like - I'd be happy to hear your ideas and reflections.
