soundhunt
Soundhunt is a game for making a collative music piece. It was commisioned by ensemble Modelo62 and played by them and their audiences in Korzo, The Hague, Splendor, Amsterdam, Untitled Gallery, Rotterdam and Kuub Gallery, Utrecht during the "Intercity Sessions" program.
I made this collage from the game-sheets left behind by the different audience members and Modelo62 musicians who played the game
In Soundhunt the decisions that everyone makes, as individuals and as a collective, both the musicians and the audience, influence and change the sound. In the first part of the game the players construct their musical piece and in the second part they perform it (1st part - sections 1-8 2nd part - section 9, see 'audience game mape' and 'M1 game map' files attached).
Once the game starts each player follows the instructions on their 'game map', takes the decisions asked and act upon them. The conductor of the game rings a bell every section. Each player also gets a 'game sheet' on which they need to write the decisions they took as well as free associasions - texts, drawings, etc. inspired by the sound they hear. The 8 musicians choose on spot their role. They are also asked to take decisions and are also influenced by the audience decisions. To play the game succesfully its important to listen carefully to the sounds, to pay attention to the surroundings while listenning to ones inner voice. |
